Twelve

Hearkening unto the door
he is expecting good news from the earth
and willing to hear that man still has a soul
yet the sun illuminates,
and portrays the whole world as a union with the beloved.
Jaswant, maharajah of the universe,
look at this melancholic canvas called the earth,
a noble beauty comes with the truth,
Jaswant, man exists, and God exists
let's whisper this fact to the whole world
you are whirling but whirling is not in vain.
O world, the dead are hearing us
and we are able to see the things
going on underneath the soil:
God exists.

Whilst the murmurs of the world remain at the doorstep
Laurence is determined to tell me things virtuous
by caressing his beard like an old jewish sage
inside of him sleeps a poet on his afternoon nap
and whispers, one ought to wait for good things to appear
many books to read, and many roads to go down
but the clock is ticking, and evil profits.
O master, wake this poet up!
we need a soldier
for the lines of love that have moved backwards
and a military campaign to die.

There lives Serafeddin,
so noble a soil is a compassionate friend to man,
so a noble nature resurrects the soil with friendship,
and so begins life with it and ends with,
there begins Montreal with a friend and ends with.

Thirteen

Going away means to conquer
or to lose the battle as an upheaval of blood
your narrative must be verified in remote lands
with silent approval, a bow down with a smile
we search for it in every street we draw near
how excited we were to be falsified when we were young
we needed to see that life could teach us, whatever it knows
by stroking our heads without mercy or hush.

Going away means to be twisted to loneliness
a stroke of an afternoon sun
a candidate of naughtiness and truancy
an adulthood excuse for inebriety
for if you return with sun under your bosom
to school on the first days of summer
destroying ramparts like a proud sultan
by jumping secretly from fences
you live life as if always apt to go away
a taste of homesickness will be in your mouth.

Going away means to amply yearn for
merging and disappearing in remote lands
to a carnival kind of sleep
going away is supposedly to return
though how many pilgrims return,
and how many returnees go down?

Going away means to be prepared
to set forth on your last journey
in the midst of mihr and mah.
